From Anger and Addiction To Tranquility and Masculinity
In the early 90s my family fled from the Civil War in Yugoslavia. We left almost everything behind us. Our house, our land, our friends and even family members. In Germany we found refuge and became part of the underclass. We hadn’t much. Back then I was a little boy, only 4 years old.
Later, I developed some anger issues. I was raised in a very aggressive environment. My mother and father were always fighting. My main school was full of thugs and bullies. This rubbed off on me.
I also became addicted to porn. With twelve years I found the porn stash of my father. Soon later I started to masturbate many times a day. (15 orgasms on 1 day was my record.) Maybe this is normal for a teenager. But, the Internet was a game changer for me. Once I was connected I searched for more and more porn. Every day I needed a new thrill: hardcore led to deep-throat; deep-throat let to anal; anal let to double penetration and so on. I couldn’t stop watching. I couldn’t talk with somebody about my problem; not even my closest friends. I was too ashamed,
Discovering the Manosphere
‘Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own.’ – Bruce Le
Early 2008 I discovered the manosphere. (Back then it wasn’t about selling copied ideas and politics but rather about self-improvement.) I read dozens of different blogs that opened my eyes for masculinity and Stoicism.
At that time I was in my early twenties, studying computer science, overweight, aggressive, lonely, and addicted to porn. A hopeless case.
But, things started to change. The manosphere blogs motivated me to do something. I tried much of the advice and sticked with what worked for me.
One suggestion had a huge impact: adopt Stoicism. I read a couple of different articles about Stoicism. They aroused my interest. I bought A Guide to The Good Life, the Meditations, and On the Shortness of Life.
Stoicism changed me. I learned a lot about myself and human nature. I was too emotional. I was too selfish. I expected something from the world.
I realized that I had to change and I did. I adopted the Stoic ideas. Stoicism made me more resilient, changed the way I look at problems, cured my anger issues, and helped me with the porn addiction.
Stoicism made me tranquil and a better person!
“Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing” – Benjamin Franklin
One of Stoicism’s core principles is the duty to serve society. I created StoicTriumph to serve other men. My and StoicTriumph’s mission is to help men:
with negative emotions
with problems of mindset like wrong perception and expectations
with new age problems like porn addiction and information overload
with masculinity problems
Currently, Stoicism is mostly used by professors, politicians, and entrepreneurs. I want to change that as well. Stoicism was a practical philosophy used by everyone. I aspire to write practical articles understandable by everyone. I aspire to introduce Stoicism to the average Joe and a new generation.
“I build the road and the road builds me” — African proverb
I deeply believe that Stoicism is a great framework to live by and to solve many men made problems. But it is not a magic bullet that solves all problems. To accomplish the set mission, I also write articles about advice, techniques, and principles, that in my opinion should be added to Stoicism. I call these additions the StoicMindset.
